Sgt. Jeffery S. Wiekamp

    Sgt. Jeffery S. Wiekamp was killed in Kunar Province, May 5, 2006 while conducting combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

    Wiekamp, 23, was a CH-47 flight engineer assigned to Company B, 3rd Battalion, 10th Aviation Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (LI), Fort Drum, N.Y.

    A native of South Dakota, Wiekamp enlisted in the Army in August 2001 and attended Basic Combat Training and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Knox, Ky.  He was also assigned to Fort Eustis, Va., and with the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) at Fort Campbell, Ky.

    He deployed to Afghanistan with his unit in February 2006.

    Wiekamp’s awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Aviator Badge.

    Wiekamp is survived by his wife Ashley, who also deployed to , and his parents Randy and Kathleen Wiekamp, of Utopia, Texas.
