Local political science professor discusses upcoming speech by Governor Sarah Palin

By KRISTEN COPELAND

MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - A political science professor at SUNYIT, says John McCain's choice of running mate surprised 99% of the country - and that's why everyone is still talking about her.

Professor Steve Schneider says everyone is trying to figure out who the governor of Alaska is and what she stands for.

Social conservatives seem energized about her speech Wednesday night because America has never had a woman on the national stage that is so personally affected by the policies concerning a woman's right to choose.

"We're going to have a national conversation about abortion and about prenatal genetic testing and about teenage pregnancy in a way we've never had before," Schneider said.

Schneider went on to say that the personal is now political.

He says after McCain speaks Thursday, the focus will be back on him
