Subway shop begins construction in North Utica

By DAVID DELLECESE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A new Subway sub shop has begun construction in North Utica.

If you've driven past the Denny's and Hampton Inn on North Genesee Street in Utica and wondered what construction was going on, it's the start of a new location of the sub franchise.

Officials with the City of Utica say that while no open date has been set, the construction of the sub shop has already begun.

It will be the second sub shop to open in the North Utica area in the past two years. Jreck Subs opened up on Trenton Avenue in Utica in April 2007.

Just like the bright idea of a Walgreens across from the Rite Aid in Whitesboro. Who thinks this sh** up? We don't have a A&W, Long John Silvers, A KFC (north side), a Ponderosa, Ruby Tuesdays, TGI Fridays, or an Olive Garden. What we do have is sub shops, every where. D- for a grade on this one!!

Jrecks closed years ago when Subway first moved into North Utica. Subway is a better product than theirs & tries hard to give good customer service. Note I said tries as nobody gives good service all the time. Subway moved from the 4 corners in N.Utica to almost Schuyler and then closed themselves due to poor leadership at that location. North Utica should welcome this business with open arms knowing that the other shop will be a casualty and the employees there will need another job soon!

Is it a real sub shop, or is like SubWay, which by and large I find very unsatisfying.

Why would the city give a permit to build another sub shop right down the street from the other one? How long ya think before one drives the other to close? Another great revitalization plan.
