Retrial begins for Norwich man accused of killing wife

By The Associated Press

NORWICH, N.Y. (AP) - Testimony is under way in the retrial of an upstate New York man charged with killing his wife in 2002.

Peter Wlasiuk was convicted in 2003 of killing his wife, Patricia, and staging it to look like she'd crashed into a lake and drowned.

The trial was delayed last week after Wlasiuk's 65-year-old father and three of the defendant's daughters were injured in a car accident.

Wlasiuk was sentenced to 25 years to life in prison, but the conviction was overturned in 2006 by a state appeals court.

Wlasiuk was scheduled to be tried again in May, but his lawyer wanted a new round of tests on Patricia Wlasiuk's blood.
