Pfc. Nicholas R. Cournoyer, 25, assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (LI), Fort Drum, N.Y., was killed May 18 when his vehicle was attacked by an improvised expensive device in Baghdad.

Pfc. Nicholas R. Cournoyer, 25, was an infantryman assigned to Company B, 2nd Battalion, 22nd Infantry Regiment, 10th Mountain Division (LI), Fort Drum, N.Y.

A native of Gilmanton, N.H., entered the Army in January 2005 and trained at Fort Benning, Ga., to serve in the infantry.

In June 2005, Cournoyer was assigned to Fort Drum.

His awards and decorations include the Purple Heart, Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon and the Combat Infantryman Badge.

Cournoyer is survived by his parents, Dennis and Linda, and his sister, Natalie, of Gilmanton, N.H.
