Shooting victim previously charged with attempted murder and robbery

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - One of two teens shot in Wednesday night’s incident in East Utica, had recently been arrested twice in connection with violent crimes in the city.

Utica Police say that Leshawn Thomas was charged with armed robbery earlier this month. Thomas also faces attempted murder charges related to a shooting in Cornhill in May of this year.

Thomas, 17, and Zeffair Hobbs, 18, suffered gunshot wounds Wednesday night during an incident at the intersection of Jay Street and Nichols Street. Utica Police are investigating the shooting, which occurred around 10pm.

The East Utica location of the Wednesday shooting is not far from a Catherine Street home where, it is alleged that, Leshawn Thomas and another man forced their way into the home at gunpoint. Police contend that Thomas and his accomplice took the homeowner’s wallet and some jewelry. Thomas was charged with robbery and burglary in that case.

According to police records, Thomas was also involved in a shooting incident on Addington Place in Utica, this past May. Thomas was charged, along with Quentin Curry, of shooting Jerome Adams in the head and shoulder. Thomas was charged with attempted murder in that case.

Things that happen like this are reason's why our society and the public do not contribute donations or support our UPD. This is complete bull. Judge popeo, the DA and Les Louis should be ashamed of themselves. What makes them think that this kid is just going to shape up and not be a violent person? Open up your eyes.

too bad whoever did the shooting wasn't a better shot, and then maybe the shooter would shoot himself too, and save the taxpayers all kind of money.

Looks like our criminal justice system has done its job of protecting the criminal element to perfection once again. I'm sure that there is some sort of program we can refer this young person to that will assist him in reentering society as a productive and taxpaying citizen. At what point does he forfeit his freedom and accept the consequences for his actions.

Um, excuse me but I have to ask the judge, what was the bail set for both of those felonies? Please tell me he was released ROR and is being treated as a youthful offender. You have got to be kidding me. Somebody please find out who the judge is that granted bail on those charges so we do not ever vote for him again! Is there something we don't know about this case?

Sounds like a couple of bullets may have saved NYS tax payers a whole money if these two lifers don't pull through. Don't worry about your hospital bills though boys those are on us.

Sounds to me like retaliation! If the DA can't keep them off the street, maybe they got what the deserve. The hospital probably won't release the info, cause they know someone will come back to finish the job!
