Ilion Goes "Green" With Street Lights

ILION, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Village of Ilion is taking the first steps, in a multi-year transition, to convert all the street lights to L.E.D. bulbs.

To start, just 30 lights will be changed over, but plans to covert all 800 plus lights are in the works. Ilion's mayor, Mark Cushman,says when the conversion is complete, the village will save roughly $50 thousand dollars a year, "The L.E.D. technology is great in that it requires 50 percent less energy. It also throws off more, and better light. It is essentially maintenance free," said Cushman.

The L.E.D. lights were made at Fiberdyne in Frankfort. An official transition to Going Green, and lighting ceremony will take place Wednesday in the village.
