SEACO in Rome sells solution for road salt shortage

By PAT BAILEY

ROME, N.Y. - Sears Ecological Application Company, or SEACO, manufactures and refines an organic based liquid de-icer that mixes with road salt. The environmentally friendly liquid known is known as "ice-be-gone".

The company provides the stuff to municipalities all over the Northeast, including the city of Rome. The Assistant Superintendent of Rome's Department of Public Works, says the liquid is a money saving option.

"The ice-be-gone we use is very effective in cold, frigid temperatures. We use a lot less salt and it lasts a lot longer", said Tony Nash.

Nash says, the price of road salt may again go up this winter, with part of the reason being shortage of salt.

SEACO produces, and distributes the liquid road de-icer for municipalities throughout the Northeast, including eight states.
