Local Man Harmed by Marcy South Speaks Out About Power Lines

C Gloo

When Sheldon Hansel first started the fight to keep Marcy South out of his backyard. Hay and cattle were the only things grown or raised on his farm. Today, towers sprout up across his property.

Hansel lost 40 acres of land taken by eminent domain. I was upset on the way they took a persons land. They snuck in and surveyed a persons ground. That’s his castle and when you steal it, people don't like that,” he says.

When these towers were built, the state took more than just Hansel’s land, they took money out of his pocket. “I’d spent years going through and I had nothing but good timber and they cut it and junked it. I lost thousands of dollars”

Today, Hansel still pays taxes on the Power Line land. Land he says is now worthless to his farm. For Hansel, his fight is over. The towers and lines strung out across his land are here for good.

According to Hansel: “I think about it everyday. It was a big lost and it’s not right the way the government does this.”

His advice to those who stand to lose land, homes, or businesses: start fighting now, and fight together, there is power in numbers.

“Get some legislation passed right in local town cities and county and get some legislation pass that any property has to go through local jurisdiction of local communities, that would be a good start.” Says Hansel.
