Utica stays afloat in weak financial waters

WKTV News

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It appears, for now, the city of Utica may be able to tread water in these uncertain financial times. The reason, the city never felt the upswing from skyrocketing house prices or the windfall from an over-inflated stock market. As a result, the city is also avoiding the plummeting fate of thousands of other cities across the country.

"We here in Utica, thank God, are not in as bad a situation as the rest of the country. Though we do have our problems because the state is facing major cutbacks that will effect us down the road," Mayor David Roefaro said.

The next test for Utica's financial fitness wil be the results of the crucial second quarter budget numbers. They are expected to be released in the next two weeks.

Get rid of welfare and make poeple work and Utica will be a much better place. Cornhill will disolve as those people will move away if there is no welfare, no free stuff, then you will be able to drive into utica without having to lock your car door, or get sticks thrown at you by the little ------- that think they own the deplorable city streets when you try to drive by. Does anyone really ever read this stuff? Because there are some good ideas here and in other posts.Wktv could get on the map

Utica is not in this mess because Utica hasn't been able to sell a house or get a loan for years. It's all the same in good 'ole Utica. Nobody has wanted to invest in Utica since The Olive Oil Company left town for good 'ole Rome.
