Some fans still turn out to Turning Stone Championship despite dreary weather

By STEVE MCMURRAY

VERNON, NY (WKTV) - Dreary weather conditions forced two delays during Friday's round two at the Turning Stone Championship. Tournament organizers were saying rain, rain go away as round three got underway on Saturday.

The weather has been the story so far for this year's championship at Atunyote. Day one saw wind, day two saw rain and even ice and tournament officials had hoped improved conditions for day three would translate into improved scores and improved attendance.

To their dismay, day three started much like day one and two with cold rain and brisk wind. Still, golf's best made the best of the situation. Robert Todd, the Director of Golf Services at the Oneida Indian Nation said, "They are the diehards, these guys are the best in the world. If you're a golfer you can appreciate that."

For the fans, braving the elements is nothing new in Central New York. Lorne Bradbury of Clinton said, "It's beautiful regardless of the weather. It hasn't been too bad, it would've been better if the weather was nicer, but you dress for it." Burlington, Vermont resident Anne Wetzel added, "When you're a golfer you play in any all types of weather unless its lightning. You just dress for it and make the best of it."

The Turning Stone Resort Championship will enter its final round with some of the PGA's best golfers and maybe even mother nature saving the best for last.
