UTICA, N.Y. - As family members, friends and co-workers of Utica Police Officer Thomas Lindsey remembered him on his birthday, Lindsey’s sister Christina gave birth to his nephew at The Birthplace at Faxton-St. Luke’s Healthcare.

Damien Lorenzo Thomas Ginter was born at 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 1, weighing 7lbs. and 5 ounces. His original due date was October 13.

“I like to believe that Damien being born on Tom’s birthday is a sign that he was here,” said Christina. “I think it is his little way of showing us that he is watching us - that he still knows everything that is going on.”

Lindsey’s untimely death occurred during a traffic stop on April 12, 2007.

“Tom was a caring, strong, sensitive person who took care of everybody,” said Christina. “If Damien turns out like him it would be a very good thing.”
