Truck Driver Killed in Thruway Accident

WKTV News

THRUWAY (WKTV) – State Police confirm that one of the drivers of the tractor trailers that collided on the Thruway Wednesday morning was killed. One lane of the Thruway has been opened in both the east and west bound lanes.

The accident occurred near mile marker 237, between Utica and Westmoreland, in the east bound lane of Rt. 90. Troopers report that one of the trucks swerved to avoid debris from a shredded tire and crossed into the opposite lane of the Thruway. The tractor trailers collided head on.

The driver of the truck that took evasive action was killed. The driver’s identity has not been released, nor has which of the two trucks the deceased was driving been identified.

One of the trucks involved was hauling a trailer from Oneida Container in Vernon. The other truck had a trailer from Stevens Transport.

The Deerfield Fire Department was called to the scene to put foam down on fuel spilled in the crash.

State Police continue the investigation at the scene, but are expected to issue a press release soon.
