NY near the bottom of tax-friendly states list

By The Associated Press

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York is next to last in an annual ranking of states with business-friendly tax policies.

New York slipped two places to 49th in the Tax Foundation's 2009 Business Tax Climate Index, which rates states based on their corporate, individual, sales, unemployment and property taxes.

Only New Jersey was beneath New York in the latest ranking by the nonprofit and nonpartisan foundation, which has been examining government fiscal policies since 1937. California, Ohio and Rhode Island rounded out the bottom five.

Wyoming ranked first, followed by South Dakota, Nevada, Alaska and Florida.

Before the comments begin...I understand the 'bottom' order is CA, OH, RI, NY, and NJ...but if you read the article fast, it does not say that or at least I did not read it that way...but anyway, this is not something to be happy about - BAU in NYS!

If NY is #49 and only NJ was beneath NY, how did CA, OH, and RI round out the bottom five? I think I know what is meant, but clarity would be nice!

This is no big surprise. We have to do something. Greedy politicians, Greedy CEO's Greedy Corporations, we will just keep getting more of the same unless we take our state back. It's shameful

No surprise there! New York State is hostile to both businesses and families that are not either super rich or super poor. If you are in the middle you get financially raped anyway you look at it! There is a stead stream of people leaving this state and the tax situation is the number one reasons why. We are leaving soon--we refuse to give away our hard earned dollars for income redistribution any longer--this state is awful!

Wake up NY. Is this the distinction we want? You shouldn't grumble when compaines pick up an move out of state because of the tax burden. We as citizens of NY should be ashamed of this.
