NY unemployment held at 5.8 percent in Sept.

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - A new state Labor Department report shows that New York's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 5.8 percent in September, unchanged from August, while the total number of private-sector jobs decreased by 1,600.

In September 2007, the state's seasonally adjusted unemployment
rate was 4.5 percent.

New York City's unemployment was also 5.8 percent, unchanged
from August but up from 5 percent in September last year.

Nationally, the unemployment rate was 6.1 percent in September.
