HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local college is doing its part to remember those who lost their lives fighting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Thursday, several local civic organizations recognized "Herkimer County Community College" in a tribute called "Remember Our Fallen Stars." Each star represents a fallen New York soldier.

This fall, H.C.C.C. dedicated 30 activities in their memory. Mimi Martin lost her husband last year, "Obviously this is something that's so close to me personally. These people have sacrificed everything for us so we can live in this country free everyday it's the least we can do to remember them in a positive way," says Martin.

The goal of the project is to remember all of New York's fallen soldiers by Veteran's Day of this year.
