Loretto Utica Center up for sale

By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A local nursing home has a date with the auction block. What about the more than 200 people who live there? The judgment of foreclosure on Loretto Utica was entered back in June.

The debtor is Loretto's mortgage company, General Electric Capital Corporation. The size of the debt?  Just under $30 million.  The Loretto Building, the former UFA school located at the corner of Kemble and Hobart Streets in Utica, is set to be sold at auction at the Oneida County Courthouse on December 3rd, less than a month away.

Officials with Loretto and their attorneys say 118 people live in the facility's nursing home and 99 live in the assisted living facility. Another 30 receive adult day care but don't live on site.

We asked the Syracuse attorney representing Loretto if there is any guarantee once the building changes hands that it will remain a nursing home and he said in the short term yes. In the long term, no guarantees.  Local officials are working with Loretto and the State Health Department to make sure it does remain a nursing home and that any transition is seamless to residents.
