UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Some local fifth graders took a trip back in time Thursday, getting a first hand look at what they're learning in history class.

About 60 students visited the Oneida County Historical Society Thursday to see how the county has contributed to our nation's past.

They specifically focused our nation's presidents, and toured several exhibits.

"I think history can be so abstract because you read about it in textbooks," said Sandy Inkawich, a teacher at Jefferson Elementary School. "So when you come here and they look at George Washington's signature. And a vice president was from Utica. They just get really excited about it."

The students also got the chance to vote for one of four exhibit ideas that will replace the presidential display next year.

Who was the vice president who came from Utica? I wish the teacher would have said his name.
