The Economy and The Arterial

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Will the nation's economic slowdown hault plans for a revamped North South Arterial in Utica? Transportation officials say no.

Planning has been in the works for more than a year for bridge work and other improvements to the aging roadway.

The Department of Transporation is in the early stages of designing changes for the project. Officials from Oneida and Herkimer County's were presented with options the DOT is considering.

Officials say the economy has slowed certain projects but not this one.
"Because the arterial project is in 2011 and 2012 you are taking about a new state fiscal planning as well as a new federal highway bill so they really haven't affected it as far as us going ahead in the design element," said Bob Rice of the DOT.
