In a tough economy, many flocking to Ebay for extra cash

NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Given the recent economy, many people are thinking up new ways to make some extra cash.

Marc Smith owns "What's it Worth?" and is making a living selling other people's items on Ebay.

"I think what we do is a service to the area, because people who do have items now have an outlet to sell them," Smith said.

It seems as though everything is worth something to somebody. At What's it Worth, they're putting things on Ebay everyday - from old Christmas ornaments to a signed hockey jersey, to an original Roy and Dale tin lunchbox from the 50's.

"The most unique thing...we had a letter once from the King of Saudi Arabia," Smith said.

Some items sold on Ebay, through this middle man, have gone for thousands of dollars. That equals potentially quick cash during tough economic times.

"With the change in the economy, we find that people are bringing items that previously they wanted to hold on to," Smith said. "People want to get money for the holidays."

But just one question remains - why not just sell on Ebay your self?

Smith says they are popular because of their proven track record.

"Ebay has a feed back system," he said. "We have almost 10,000 feedbacks that puts us probably in the top 2% of EBay sellers. People are confident in buying from us."
