Five men charged with 2003 armed robbery of Loomis-Fargo employee
(WKTV) - Four Utica men and one Cold Brook man have been indicted on federal charges of conspiracy, robbery, and firearms stemming from the armed robbery of a Loomis-Fargo employee in Utica on December 12, 2003, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. Stanley Mellott, 54, Charles J. McKinney, 36, Richard T. Shaw, 49, Daniel P. Tripolo, 32, and Ronald Fuentes, 40, of Cold Brook were all named in a five-count indictment by a federal grand jury in Syracuse on December 10, 2008. According to the U.S. District Attorney's Office, all five men conspired together to rob a Loomis-Fargo courier of a bag containing containing money from Adirondack Bank. Mellott, Fuentes, and Tripoli are all charged with aiding and abetting each other in the robbery of the employee by striking him about the head, shoulders and hands with what is being referred to as a "cylindrical object" The U.S. Attorney's Office says Mellott and Fuentes carried firearms during the robbery and McKinney was the supplier of the firearm, knowing it would be used to commit the crime. Mellott, Shaw, Fuentes, and Tripoli were arrested December 17 and appeared in federal court in Syracuse. McKinney will appear in court on Thursday, December 18. Each defendant faces a 20 year maximum prison sentence, a $250,000 fine and period of supervised release on the charges of conspiracy to commit the robbery. Mellott, Fuentes, and Tripoli face the same sentence on the robbery charges. Mellott and Fuentes face an additional five-year mandatory prison service, a fine of up to $250,000 and a period of supervised release for the firearms possession charges. McKinney faces a maximum term of ten years in prison, a fine of up to $250,000 and term of supervised release. |
