Herkimer County investigates Newport fire

NEWPORT, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Herkimer County Fire Investigative Team is working with state police and Newport Fire Department to determine the cause of a blaze at the "Humpf Trucking and Sanitation Center" on Old State Road, just off Route 28 in Herkimer County.

The Head of Emergency Services in Herkimer County, Bob Vanderwalker, said there was concern because the building might have been empty for up to a month.

Vanderwalker stressed that the fire is not being ruled suspicious at this time.

Several departments battled the fire for over 13 hours.

According to the Poland Fire Department, there were no injuries.
