Rome man whose murder conviction overturned pleads to lesser charge

By JOLEEN FERRIS

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A Rome man whose murder conviction was recently overturned has accepted a plea offer to a lesser charge.

A jury in 2005 convicted Ricky LaGasse of second degree murder in the death of Paul Jansen in Jansen's North Bay home. But the appellate court overturned that conviction.

Friday in Oneida County Court, LaGasse accepted the plea to first degree manslaughter in exchange for a 15-year prison sentence, with credit for time served.
