Snow emergencies in effect as another winter storm hits
(WKTV) - A look at the television screen Friday afternoon may have led a viewer to believe the entire region had shut down, as numerous organizations, businesses, and events closed early, or cancelled all together. Our winter storm continues this afternoon, with treacherous driving conditions reported around the region. Snow emergencies have been put in effect for Utica, Herkimer, Frankfort, Rome, Ilion, Dolgeville, New York Mills, and Mohawk. According to meteorologists, anywhere from 3-6" has fallen in the area. Another 2-4" is likely through 6-7 p.m. An area of dry air will sneak into most areas south of I-90, so your snow may stop for a time or at the least, lighten up between 4 and 6 PM. North of I-90, snow will likely persist, with perhaps a brief lull in the Mohawk Valley. Heavy snow will continue through 6-7 PM for the North Country. The rest of the forecast remains on track. Current thinking is that snowfall amounts will end up on the low end of projected totals. Most Popular
