Baby Jesus taken from nativity scene for second year in a row

By JOLEEN FERRIS

CLARK MILLS, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Bible says, "Thou shalt not steal." What would it say about stealing a baby Jesus figurine from a nativity scene?

Clark Mills Historical Society member Joe Abraham didn't know what to say - or think - when he noticed baby Jesus missing from the society's manger scene for the second year in a row.

"Well, I drove by and I looked and I said, 'no, it can't be'," he said.

What makes the theft even more shocking are the steps Abraham took to prevent it.

"I epoxyed the baby Jesus to the crib itself then put screws from the crib down into the decking of the manger and they still took it out of there."

Now, the reason for the season is missing from the manger. A bare screw meant to anchor the figurine to the crib now protrudes from it.

"It's just sad...I just don't understand it at all," said Abraham.

The Clark Mills Historical Society will talk about whether or not to have the nativity scene next year.

Anyone with any information about the missing baby Jesus figurine can call Kirkland Police at 853 3311.

I wonder what goes on in someone's head when they go through all the energy to steal a Jesus figurine. It's a shame that people are trying to take the real reason for Christmas. There will be a judgement some day soon. You should be ashamed of yourself!

lock them up for 90 days and I bet it would send a message. Us taxpayers have plenty of money for this, just ask the governor.

What a world we live in when someone steals the baby Jesus from a nativity scene that the public takes pride in. What happened to everyone having the right to believe in their own religion?

...run some electricity to the manger scene, so the thief will get zapped next time?? Or post a sign saying "this area monitored by video"...Okay, so not very Christian, but sometimes you need to fight fire with fire.
