Local municipalities deal with heavy snow

By PAT BAILEY

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The City of Utica is under a snow emergency for Friday along with many other towns and villages in the area. It is all hands on deck for most local municipalities in Central New York.

The highway superintendent for the Town of New Hartford says all 11 town plows have been out since early afternoon and will remain out until early Saturday morning.

DPW Commissioner Rich Conte says for right now, plows are out working on the main roads, the priorities to get people home. He says there are plows in every part of the city so if you do not see one out your window now, do not panic because one will be on the way.

He said, "All your main routes, Oneida Street, Mohawk Street, Culver Avenue all the places were people need to get home. I'm probably missing a lot. York Street and Sunset Avenue, those are the ones hit first, the secondaries will get hit last."

Conte says plows will go full head of steam until about 6:00, when the storm slows down. Then a few will remain out hitting those side streets. Starting tonight at 11:00pm, every plow and all 26 operators will be out at once cleaning all city streets from 11a.m. until 8 a.m.
