Congressman Gary Ackerman finally "does Utica"

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Congressman Gary Ackerman of New York City visited the city Monday after claiming "he doesn't do Utica." Since that comment, he has not been too popular with Uticans so Congressman Michael Arcuri thought it would be a good idea for him to visit.

Arcuri thought it would be a good idea to show Congressman Ackerman what Utica has to offer, so Union Station is just one of five stops he will be making on his day-long tour. He also stopped at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute and will go to Tiny's Grill in Utica's Art District.

You may recall about 10 days ago that Congressman Ackerman was asked by a New York Post reporter about Caroline Kennedy possibly replacing Hillary Clinton in the United States Senate. He said he would not want to because "I don't do Utica, and that's part of the job."

When the story first happened, NEWSChannel 2 tried to contact Congressman Ackerman via telephone and mail, but never received a response. For his visit, NEWSChannel 2's Gary Liberatore was the first to welcome him to Central New York's Renaissance City.

Open mouth insert..The only thing that still amazes me is that people believe that politicians put us first before themselves. Congressman Ackerman proves this is unfortunately not the case. His voting record and touring desires prove that he can only serve us in a limited fashion. The concensus is that he made the trip to save face. Unfortunately, he is much more qualified than Caroline.

You would think a 25 year veteran congressman would be a little diplomatic with his remarks, but this visit and his apology helped.. but who really would do Utica if they lived downstate? every one knows upstate is getting crippled, and it is politicians like these who exploit upstate cities with rediculous taxes, power line proposals and other plans to help them while hurting us.. why bother even pretending to care about upstate like ackerman.. no one else does down there. wake up people.

The only thing this visit proves is that our elected officials are morons. They are spending our money during a fiscal crisis to wine and dine an angry man from NYC who will still hate anything outside of the city. Well done, Mike, Dave & RoAnne.
