Congressman Gary Ackerman finally "does Utica"

Tools

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Congressman Gary Ackerman of New York City visited the city Monday after claiming "he doesn't do Utica." Since that comment, he has not been too popular with Uticans so Congressman Michael Arcuri thought it would be a good idea for him to visit.

Arcuri thought it would be a good idea to show Congressman Ackerman what Utica has to offer, so Union Station is just one of five stops he will be making on his day-long tour. He also stopped at Munson-Williams-Proctor Arts Institute and will go to Tiny's Grill in Utica's Art District.

You may recall about 10 days ago that Congressman Ackerman was asked by a New York Post reporter about Caroline Kennedy possibly replacing Hillary Clinton in the United States Senate. He said he would not want to because "I don't do Utica, and that's part of the job."

When the story first happened, NEWSChannel 2 tried to contact Congressman Ackerman via telephone and mail, but never received a response. For his visit, NEWSChannel 2's Gary Liberatore was the first to welcome him to Central New York's Renaissance City.
