State granting $3 million for helping senior citizens with home repairs

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - State housing officials say $3 million in
grants will go toward helping senior citizens make needed emergency
repairs to their homes.

The funding comes from the state's Residential Emergency Service to Offer Repairs to the Elderly. The program helps low-income senior citizens make immediate repairs to hazardous conditions in their home.

The Division of Housing and Community Renewal says the 28 grants are part of an unprecedented second funding round administered by
the agency this year. The money will go to nonprofit corporations and municipalities across the state. It will be used for repairs including fixing broken water pipes, leaking gas lines, and inoperable furnaces.
