Hitting the slopes on Christmas break

By PAT BAILEY

WESTERNVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - Joe Olney says Woods Valley has been open for skiing since late November and the attendance as been good.

However, the owner of the ski slope says, now they are getting a big lift thanks to some great skiing weather and schools being on Christmas vacation

All 14 trails at Woods Valley are open this holiday week. Olney says that is due large in part to the great weather from mainly the two snow storms that came through the Mohawk Valley last week.

Olney says the storms played a big part, but not the biggest. He says the cold weather has really helped the conditions stay near perfect.

Those packed powder trails are attracting young and old this vacation.

"Christmas week is real important, not only to our are but all areas in the Northeast. Obviously you have two national holidays, all the schools are out of session, so it's real important for us." Olney said.

"Christmas week we count the important days as the (December) 26th through the (January) 4th, and that could be as much as 10 or 15% percent of our business for the whole season."

Most school districts in the area are on Christmas vacation for two full weeks.

Woods Valley will be open the entire time except for Christmas day.
