Roads seeing less travelers this holiday season

By EVAN WHITE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It isn't such a happy holiday season for the travel industry.

More than a million fewer Americans will travel this year according to AAA.

Union station in Utica had quite a few passengers traveling to New York City, according to the Amtrak's website were full coming into the day, and buses appeared to be near capacity, but AAA of New York spokesperson Ed Welsh says that does not explain the overall picture nationally.

"Every venue of travel is seeing a decline, motor vehicles are leading the pack with over 800,000 who normally would be traveling are staying home this holiday season," said Welsh.

So when will America hit the road again?

"I'm not so sure we are going to see an upturn until 2010, and I can't predict it right now, but I think you will see prices stay stable until 2010."

AAA is expected to release another study on travel in spring.
