Not such a Happy Holiday for victims of domestic abuse

By EVAN WHITE

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - With Christmas, comes tremendous stress that translates into police being called for more domestic incidents than any other situation on holidays according to Utica Police.

In 2007, UPD was called to 11 incidents on Thanksgiving, 10 on Christmas and 15 on New Year's Eve.

This past Thanksgiving saw 11 domestic incidents.

Brenda Episcopo of The Peacemaker Program, a non-profit organization dealing with conflict resolution says two main reasons likely result in heated holiday incidents.

The first, is money, the second, high expectations.

"It's really difficult to plan for holidays and do what you normally would do to celebrate the holidays when financial times are really tough," said Episcopo.
