Six-year-old girl dies in Salisbury fire

SALISBURY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Six-year-old Adriana Gene Vavaro has died after fire tore through her Salisbury home. The Salisbury Fire Department responded to 107 Heller Road just before 2:00 AM Saturday. 

Family members told firefighters they were unable to reach the child. After a brief search of the home in zero-visibility conditions, firefighters discovered the victim near the bedroom doorway. Adriana's parents were taken to a local hospital for smoke inhalation and lacerations.

According to the Miller-Plonka Funeral Home's website, the girl's nickname was "Boogie-Girl." She attended Kindergarten at Dolgeville Elementary School and loved to dance, cook, bake and spend time with her family according to the brief obituary.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
