Rome Police confirm that California man died of hypothermia

ROME, N.Y. (WKTV) - The man found on North George Street has been identified as 22-year-old Steven Garcia of California. Garcia's body was found in the backyard of a residence. It has been confirmed that he died of  hypothermia and the case is closed.

Authorities say he had been staying with a friend in Rome for the past couple of months. Rome Public Safety Commissioner James Masucci says that Garcia was drinking at a party Saturday night, and left alone 4:30 a.m.

He eventually broke into a vacant home. Garcia then tried to break the garage window, badly cutting his arm and suffering severe blood loss.

I knew Steven for Many years he was a funny wonderful person and I just wish he would have been taken care of a little better by his "friends" and I can tell you that he was NOT trying to break in anywhere. RIP Steven I will always love and miss you.

this person happened to be a friend of mine. he wasn't visiting new york he was attending a culinary arts school and had a place to live there. unfortunately the people that were his "friends" weren't actually his friends because we would never let that happen to him, it just really sucks that he was supposed to come back to visit us and we lost him like that. R.I.P. STEVEN we can't believe your gone!

i knew steven over here in cali and we're all angry that they let him leave alone when he was so drunk. i guess those NY friends of his weren't really his friends. please don't type anything mean, his family and friends will read them, and that's not cool.

Ok, so the guy was drinking. He wasn't driving. He was walking. Probably not real familiar with the area, got lost and confused. It takes longer than two months to learn an area. The question I like to ask is, where were his so called friends? How come they weren't concerned about him leaving alone? With friends like that, who needs enemies. A young man lost his life, prayer for his family.
