Downstate's Congressman Israel visit Utica in hopes of Senate vacancy

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - A downstate politician vying for Hillary Clinton's vacant senate seat stopped in Utica Monday. Congressman Steven Israel visited with local politicians at the Marr-Logg Restaurant to discuss issues relevant to Upstate New Yorkers, including Griffis Airforce Base, energy conservation and the arterial project.

Congressman Israel has eight years experience in the House of Representatives and is heavily involved in multiple committees including the Appropriations and Armed Services.

Israel is one among a few well-known names on Governor David Paterson's short list including: Caroline Kennedy and Andrew Cuomo.

Paterson is expected to make his appointment before the end of January.
