Report: National Grid seeks returns from municipalities

WKTV News

N.Y. (WKTV) - National Grid is reportedly asking for millions of dollars back from area municipalities because of an accounting error.

The Watertown Daily Times is reporting National Grid is asking 150 villages and cities, in the upstate area, for roughly $13 million.

The paper says National Grid believes the Niagara Mohawk Power Corporation accidentally overpaid in gross receipt taxes from 2005 to 2008.

The cities of Utica and Rome are both on the list.

City of Utica Spokesman, Angelo Roefaro says, the city has heard of this, but not officially from National Grid. Roefaro says because of that, at this point there is no comment.

Perhaps National Greed needs to hire some new accountants? I'm sure there are quite a few unemployed ones in the area.
