UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - Amongst the millions of others, 44 students from Notre Dame High School will attend the presidential inauguration.

Social Studies Teacher Christine Tylutki says students are paying more than $400 a piece for the trip.

Tylutki began planning in September, after receiving a letter from a local bus company.

The school held a mock-election in September to give students a better sense of the electoral process. That experience culminates with the trip to Washington for the historic ceremony.

"Just going to the inauguration, was like, 'wow this is our government, this is something you are going to be a part of for an awful long time and you are going to have to help make the decisions as to who is going to run the country,'" Tylutki said of the students' reaction to such an opportunity.

Unfortunately, the students were unable to get tickets, so it's unlikely the classes will get close to the action.

Officials from Rome and Westmoreland's school districts tell us students from their schools are going as well.

A call to Utica's Proctor High School Principal Steven Falchi wasn't returned by airtime to see if Proctor High School had any trips planned.
