Super Bowl To Broadcast in HD On Time Warner

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) – Super Bowl XLIII will be available in High Definition broadcast to subscribers of Time Warner Cable. An agreement was reached between Smith Media Licensing, LLC, the owners of WKTV, and Time Warner Cable early Wednesday, January 28, 2009, giving the cable service provider permission to use the station’s HDTV transmission of the game this Sunday.

NewsChannel 2’s HDTV signal will be carried on Time Warner systems in Utica, Ilion and the valley, Forestport, Old Forge and northern Herkimer County on channel 863 . Time Warner systems in Oneonta, Cooperstown, Richfield Springs and Otsego County will be carrying the HD broadcast on channel 700 .

“We are delighted that our viewers who subscribe to Time Warner will be able to enjoy the experience of the Super Bowl through our High Definition broadcast,” said Vic Vetters, Vice President and General Manager of WKTV/WBU.

NBC programming in High Definition has been broadcast over the air by WKTV on Digital Channel 2.1 since August 2008.

The Arizona Cardinals will play the Pittsburgh Steelers in the Super Bowl on Sunday, February 1st. NBC’s coverage, in High Definition, begins with THE ROAD TO THE SUPER BOWL at 12:00PM. The SUPER BOWL PRE-GAME SHOW begins at 1:00PM and will feature an exclusive interview with Pres. Barack Obama. Actually game coverage of SUPER BOWL XLIII gets underway at 6:00PM.

After the big game, NBC will present an special hour long episode of the award winning comedy THE OFFICE.
