YORKVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - According to January reports, Ford, GM, and Chrysler all reported sales at least 35% less than the month before. However, despite those numbers, and despite the current economy, local dealerships say business is good, and General Sales Manager for Carbone GMC, Carl Famolaro, says now is the time to buy. "I know nationally it shows 49%, but locally, and with the help of all the people in the Utica area, we are seeing an increase," Famolaro said.
Famolaro has been selling cars for 38 years, and says the national sales numbers do not affect how he does business. "Really, if you look at those things you get discouraged," Famolaro said. "If you have the attitude of coming in and going to make people happy with buying a GM car, I think that's the way to do it." said Famolaro.
Famolaro says they have sold more vehicles for two reasons. The first: many people are looking to help the economy by purchasing American vehicles, such as GM. The second reason he says, are the extra incentives that the company is currently offering. "Maybe as much as $7,000 worth of additional rebates on top of what is out there right now," Famolaro said.
Just down the road at Carbone Hyundai, the incentives are just as good, and some even argue that they are better than those of GM. In fact, Hyundai worker Tony Lovallo says that in order to sell more vehicles, Hyundai is offering a program that guarantees that if you lose your job, you can return the vehicle hassle free. "Not only that assurance that you can return your car, but I have never seen such fantastic discounts, rebates, in quite a while. They are making it a time to buy," Lovallo said.
