Newport man found guilty of attempted murder

HERKIMER, N.Y. (WKTV) - Michael Caldwell, age 42, was found guilty on a Charge of attempted murder, assault and criminal possession of a weapon. A Herkimer County Jury spent hours Monday deliberating the Newport man's fate.

These charges stem from a fight at the White Creek Trailer Park back in July. Caldwell shot his neighbor in the leg after the neighbor, Daniel Uebele hit him and blinded him in one eye.

After being hit, police say Caldwell went back to his trailer and grabbed a loaded rifle. He then fired several times at Uebele hitting him both legs.

The week long trial culminated in the guilty verdict. Caldwell now faces up to 25 years in prison. The defense says they will file a notice of appeal.
