Dolgeville residents concerned as massive ice jam causes East Canada creek to swell

DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - Residents on Dolge Avenue in Dolgeville are concerned tonight because a huge ice jam is causing the East Canada creek behind their homes to swell. Firefighters say flooding this time of year is not uncommon but this year it all came at once.

"Right now there is a huge jam out there and there is a lot more ice north. If everything comes at once that's the worst case scenario," says Dolgeville Firefighter William Mahrdy.

Firefighters spent the day pumping out the basements of multiple homes along Dolge Ave. and they are standing by to make sure the flooding does not get worse.

In the meantime, residents are hoping for the best.

Note: NEWSChannel 2 has learned that a firefighter was hurt when he was hit by ice that fell off a roof on Dolge Avenue, no word on his condition tonight.
