Lipiec arrest may lead to review of Jennifer Bennett murder

(WKTV) - For the mother of a murdered daughter, news that investigators are looking into whether a man recently arrested for unlawful imprisonment might have known her daughter, offered a much-needed shred of hope.

"I definitely needed this glimmer of hope. I need some closure for Jennifer's horrific murder. There needs to be someone brought to responsibility for this, for me, for her children," says Bennett's mother, Denise Saunders.

Saunders doesn't recognize David Lipiec--the man arrested for unlawfully imprisoning a local woman. But that doesn't necessarily mean her daughter didn't know him. Police might never learn for sure if Bennett and Lipiec knew each other.

However, If police recovered suspect DNA from Jennifer Bennett's body, that might offer investigators a chance to establish an undeniable connection between Bennett and Lipiec, or--rule him out as the person who attacked her.

People sledding discovered Jennifer Bennett's body behind the Deerfield firehouse in January of 2007.
