Following his tour in Afghanistan, Geary had planned a surprise wedding to his girlfriend. He met his girlfriend. Rachael, while stationed in Jacksonville, North Carolina. "They were getting married, he planned on them coming back to get married," said Geary's sister, Elise.

"We all loved him, he was a great person, we all loved him, he loved everybody, he was friends with everybody, he never picked on anybody. It was always 'I'm here for you when you need me,'" said Geary' sister Elise. She went on to say that Danny not only helped build the Rome house where his parents live, but also helped pay for it.
