Both candidates for the 24th congressional seat say they are against the president's latest plan for Social Security. President Bush wants to change the program by modernizing it through personal retirement accounts. The 24th district has the largest number of people dependent on Social Security in New York State, so it's a topic very important to those living in the area. That's why, today, Democratic Candidate Michael Arcuri spoke to a group of seniors at the East Utica Senior Center.

While there, he signed a pledge promising he would work to keep the promise of Social Security and fight any plan that would weaken the system. Republican candidate Ray Meier was not at today's pledge signing but says he is against privatizing Social Security, he's and opposed to raising our families' payroll taxes.
