New Berlin man charged for forging federal firearm application form
NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A South New Berlin man is facing charges after police say he forged federal forms in an effort to purchase a firearm.
The New Hartford Police Department have charged Eric D. Fletcher, 28, of South New Berlin, with forgery. Police say Fletcher entered Gander Mountain on April 10 and completed a Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives federal form in order to purchase a firearm. This form, which is reviewed by the National Instant Criminal Background Check System agency, was denied because of a false entry on said form. Further investigation revealed that Fletcher answered negative to a question that asked if he was the subject of a court order of protection. Fletcher is currently under the order of a Chenango County Family Court Order of Protection, which prohibits him from purchasing any firearms. He was arraigned in New Hartford Criminal Court and sent to Oneida County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bail bond. |
