Debate Disruption: NEWSChannel 2 Camera Catching Congressional Debate Outburst

By Nate Crossett

All things considered, NEWSChannel 2's debate between Mike Arcuri and Ray Meier ran very smoothly. However, at one point, the District Attorney was wrapping up a question regarding the Mark Foley scandal, when a man in a suit stood up and demanded to know what the candidates would do to protect students. The debate stipulations did not allow for question and answer from audience members. After the brief disruption, the man was asked to leave, and the debate continued without interruption.

It's hard to completely make out what the man was saying.  He seemed to be upset over an alleged incident at Donovan Middle School where his son was stabbed at school:

"...and nothing's being done about it, where's the right and wrong in that? Vic: thank you sir. Man: sit down! Man: my son was stabbed on Friday! Crowd: sit down! Vic: NEWSChannel 2's coverage of this debate will continue after this. Crowd: Throw him out. Man: Yeah who, because my son was stabbed, yeah you're bright. Who's gonna do something about that? No one. Crowd: Just leave. Crowd: Unintelligible. Clapping, Crowd: You oughta be ashamed of yourself. Idiots..."
