Swine flu puts college campuses on alert

MARCY, N.Y. (WKTV) - Local colleges are firing off the usual memos to students in light of the recent outbreak downstate of swine flu.

For the most part, they advise students to cover their mouths when they cough or sneeze, wash hands frequently and watch for flu-like symptoms.

One school's memo, however, included an extra heads-up involving a visit from a student of St. Francis Prep School in Queens, which has 28 confirmed cases of swine flu. The student visited SUNYIT in Marcy on Friday. He was not sick, nor had he traveled to Mexico.

New York State's Health Commissioner, Dr. Richard Danes, and Governor Paterson held a news conference today, during which Daines hinted that swine flu might not remain a downstate problem for long

"Additional samples have come in from around the state; we have possible cases in all regions of the state," says Dr. Daines.
