Many family trips and honeymoons cancelled due to swine flu fears

(WKTV) - The swine flu in Mexico is affecting travel agents and their clients right here in Central New York.

One travel agent said it wasn't too bad last week, but this week her clients have been calling, very worried about their planned Mexico trips scheduled to happen over the next few weeks.

Bozena Piatek of APR Travel in New Hartford had to re-route one couple that had been looking forward to their Cancun trip for months. Instead, they'll be visiting the Dominican Republic.

"It is difficult for me to really tell them what to do to calm them down," Piatek said. "I know they were looking forward to this vacation. It was a family vacation and they were really ecstatic about taking this one."

Ed Welsh, of AAA says the Centers for Disease Control have issued warnings against unnecessary travel to Mexico through May 6. Piatek says airlines and resorts have been very understanding about rescheduling.

We spoke with some agents who have clients set to go right after May 6th. They're watching anxiously to see what happens - if that travel advisory is extended.
