UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - By next week the New York State Public High School Athletic Association expects to release its decision on an appeal filed by the Tri-Valley League to keep Utica and Rome from playing in its high school sports league.

Months ago, Rome and Utica school districts sought a move into the closer T.V.L. in efforts to save money and cut-down on travel time for student athletes says Utica Superintendent James Willis.

T.V.L. said no but Section III, which the league is part of, said yes.

That decision was appealed by the T.V.L. to the State High School Athletic Association which will hear the appeal Thursday during a hearing at 1:30pm according to Richard D. Hunt of the T.V.L.

Hunt went on to say that the league will have 15 minutes to give their side, Section III an additional 15 minutes and finally five minutes for others in addition to a question and answer session.

Utica Superintendent James Willis says he will travel to Albany for the appeal, NEWSChannel 2 has not yet heard from Rome School officials. T.V.L. Section III will also be present during the appeal tomorrow said Hunt.

There no telling exactly when a decision will be reached, but N.Y.S.P.H.S.A.A. Executive Director Nina Van Erk says she expects the panel who'll hear the matter to decide and release that information by next week.
