Possible interest in Knights of Columbus building

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - It's been nearly three years since fire damaged the Knights of Columbus building on Genesee Street in Downtown Utica.

Since then, the building has been vacant. But that could soon change.

Utica Urban and Economic Development Commissioner Bob Sullivan met as recently as Wednesday afternoon with a developer from Massachusetts who's interested in the building.

"We're meeting with a private developer who's interested in looking at the structure and possibly putting in some market rate apartments and some other community uses as well," Sullivan said.

The Knights of Columbus organization still owns the building.

Sullivan says the city's been helping to aggressively market it because of its historic value. He hopes there will be a buyer and tenant within six months.
