UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - An army captain presented the City of Utica with a city flag he brought back with him from Afghanistan.

New York Army National Guard Captain Rick Redmond was born and raised in Utica. He took his pride in the city with him overseas as he flew the city's flag in the face of the enemy during battle.

Wednesday night, Redmond returned the flag, and received proclamations from both Congressman Michael Arcuri and Utica Mayor David Roefaro.

Redmond says he may have been thousands of miles away physically, but flying that flag brought his heart back home. "It felt like home," Redmond said. "To be able to fly the flag, take pictures of flying the flag, It just puts you in touch with home for a few hours."

Redmond also brought with him Wednesday night an American flag that he flew the same day he proudly waved the Utica Flag.
